Hi I'm Theresa Bates, artist and teacher of therapeutic art. My passion for art and love for nature started at a very young age. I would spend many hours exploring, collecting, and creating. This process stills rings true today.
After my studies at SUNY Purchase and The Arts Students League in NYC, I pursued a career in art. My mixed media paintings have been shown in many wonderful venues in New York City and the Tri-state area including The Cork Gallery at Lincoln Center, NYC, The New City Gallery in Soho, The Wilmer Jennings Gallery, NYC, The New Century Gallery, Soho, The Times Square Gallery, NYC with Solo shows at The Nexus Gallery, East Village, NYC, PS122 Gallery, NYC, The Arts Students League Gallery, NYC, Martha's Vineyard Visual Art Center, MA, The SoNo Arts Festival, Norwalk, CT, The Farrell Gallery at Silvermine, New Canaan CT, The Katonah Museum, Katonah NY, and Washington Art Association, CT.
MY commissioned work includes CD covers and large scale mural work. My work is owned by many collectors in U.S. and Europe. From 1998- 2019, I was on staff at The Katonah Art Center, where I taught Painting, Drawing, and mixed media to students of all ages. In 2009, I worked at the Northern Westchester Hospital in the Integrative Medicine Department as an Arts Facilitator, where I won "The Spirit of Plaintree Award " for the work I did with cancer patients. In 2010 I became a 200hr Kripalu certified Yoga instructor. I feel that Art and Yoga help tap into a powerful inspirational center.
